Relief valves are used in hydraulic circuits to protect the downstream circuit from overpressurization by a pump. They are factory set for a specified cracking pressure (i.e. set pressure), and are adjustable or available with tamper proof wire to inhibit field readjustment. When inlet pressure is reduced to within 25% of set pressure, the relief valve reseals.
Relief Valves are manufactured with zinc plated carbon steel bodies with hardened stainless steel sealing components.
A relief valve is a last resort safety device and is not intended to be used as a pressure reducing or regulator valve.

Check valves provide unidirectional flow, sealing against reverse flow, and are commonly used on the outlet side of a pump.
Never rely on the check valve as a block valve for upstream maintenance.
